About Me

Welcome and thank you for visiting my website.
My name is Lindy Carter and I live in Rutland and run my 1:1, face to face, private practice from Oakham. I also offer some Zoom sessions. I can also provide bespoke packages for half or full days in schools.
I am a qualified counsellor for school aged children and young people and have a master's degree in counselling. I have worked for over 20 years with children and young people including as a teacher, and as a counsellor. I have worked in primary, secondary and sixth form colleges in the UK as part of the pastoral and well-being teams and as a counsellor for a national charity. I also have extensive experience from working in schools in the USA. I specialize in children and young people (CYP) aged 6-18 typically.

Therapies Used
I use solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) where the focus is on the future goal, and not the problem, and where the child is the expert on his/her own life. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is another solution focused therapy used, which explores how problems can be solved/managed by changing the way the individual thinks and acts. Sometimes play/art therapy is appropriate, depending on the age of the young person. Complex cases might require longer term therapy or external referrals to appropriate agencies.
This counselling is intended to be a brief early intervention to help prevent young people from reaching a crisis point. Many young people benefit from having an impartial, independent listener who can help to empower the young person with coping strategies to deal with real and everyday issues including such issues as bullying, friendship challenges, academic concerns, family issues, lack of confidence, anxiety, depression, stress, self harm , low mood,  low self esteem, eating disorders, school transitions.
I look forward to meeting you.
